Assignment 5: Vanishing boundaries

Criteria

Create a simple color presentation in which a simple shape of one color dissolves into a ground of similar hue and value.

To achieve a vanishing boundary, the colors must be of equal value and similar hue.

Homework is shown below in the order submitted.

Comment:

I had AI difficulties to isolate and send elements from the squares file so here’s the whole thing. Portions of the matrix vanish into the ground.

Comment:

hues change so much depending on neighbor. Look different in the grid compared to painting.

Assignment 5: Vanishing boundaries

assignment

Criteria

Create a simple color presentation in which a simple shape of one color dissolves into a ground of similar hue and value.

To achieve a vanishing boundary, the colors must be of equal value and similar hue.

Constraints

The subject matter can range from a simple shape of one color on a ground of equal value and closeness in hue, to many colors in a variety of shapes. The boundaries around shapes should “disappear” due to color interaction.

If you are incorporating an array or matrix as your color source for the assignment “Vanishing Boundaries”, the parent colors must be of equal value.

Hints for success

Review the Vanishing Boundaries handout.

If we can see the shape at arm’s length, but not at 20 feet, chances are you’ve achieved a vanishing boundary.

For those working with Color-Aid paper, the task proves to be a challenge in craftsmanship, for the shapes must be inlaid. This requires a razor blade sharpness for cutting both colored papers simultaneously on a glass-like surface, to be sure of a precise fit. No gaps or overlaps can exist, so some practice cuts should be made before attempting the final presentation.
