In advance of the Seeing the Light exhibition at Viewpoints Gallery (on now through January 17, 2020), Diana Lehr interviewed Dick for Yale University Radio. They talk about Dick’s journey as an artist, and how he has extended ideas from Josef Albers’ teaching. They define vanishing boundaries and halation, the techniques of luminosity featured in the current exhibition.
The interview is embedded in a blog post which has a brief biography about Dick, and shows two of his watercolors. Click here to view the post and listen to the interview. You may enjoy exploring the site afterward, as it has interviews with hundreds of artists.
Diana Lehr is a longtime Maui artist, and is one of those included in the current exhibition. Dick admires her paintings and videos, which can be seen on her website. In the blog section of her website, you can find other interviews she’s done with artists such as James Turrell and Anthony Howe.
